GFW grantee Karen Women's OrganizationBurma Update From The Karen Women's Organization
The Global Fund for Women stands in solidarity with the millions of people whose lives have been devastated by cyclone Nargis, which struck Burma on May 2, 2008. Since 1997, the Global Fund has awarded almost $400,000 to Burmese women’s groups in exile located in neighboring countries such as Thailand and Bangladesh. Many of these groups serve and are comprised of women activists and refugees who have escaped the brutal military regime. Find out how you can help. Created in time for the Global Fund's 20th anniversary, this 10 minute video features courageous women from Colombia, South Africa and Malaysia. It profiles three women who are bringing vision and creativity to extraordinary challenges as they work in conflict zones, grapple with the pandemic of HIV/AIDS, and reinterpret the Qu'ran to reveal a respect for women. These are bold women who refuse to accept the status quo.
